Volunteer Coordinator’s Blog
Welcome to my blog page, a New Year brings new beginnings, fresh hopes and maybe new acquaintances as well as the inevitable New Year’s resolutions. I’m sure 2012 will be no different and for me it sees the advent of my very first blog page with the aspiration of keeping you updated with everything that is going on in Oak Tree including volunteering opportunities, new projects and events throughout the year.
So what hopes for 2012? On the sporting landscape we will be cheering England hoping they can enjoy some success in football’s European Championships in Ukraine and Poland, we will see how England’s rugby players recover in rugby’s 6 Nation after the debacle in last year’s World Cup and in cricket can England maintain their status as the number 1 ranked team? However, the greatest showpiece this year has to be the much heralded Summer Olympics here in the UK, so throughout the year look out for special Olympic themed events happening in Oak Tree including a Pub Quiz with an Olympic theme in all categories; some Olympics Craft making; Olympic Style Activities and lots more.
2012 will bring hopes but for many it will bring the antithesis as we continue to struggle through a morose economic climate, politicians and economists are already talking about a gloomy outlook with more service and job cuts and changes to benefit as well as increase energy prices. Oak Tree Neighbourhood Management Team will be working with Mansfield CVS to provide help and support to those seeking employment and training, we will also be posting regular courses on the website that will be free to those on benefits or at a reduced price so please keep clicking the Training link for updates on courses in the area.
Finally thank you to all those who made it to the Volunteer’s Christmas Party and a special thank you to Cuckoo Birch for hosting the event, may I also take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year!
